Katlego Makgotlwe, stage name KatzTheSingR, is a singer songwriter and guitarist hailing from the streets of Vosloorus. She comes from a family of musicians with her mother and grandmother both participating in church choirs and that is how the love for music was created. Though she admits to being a very nervous performer, she started singing at a young age, as a small child in church, alongside her sisters. That said, it wasn’t till 2015, when she moved to Pretoria for her studies, that she joined a band which was part of an organization that aimed to equip artists with basic music knowledge. She aimed to be able to perform independently, hence she started teaching herself how to play a guitar. That’s when she would perform her own songs and some covers in Open mic sessions. In 2019, she went on The Voice SA Season 3 where she impressed the judges by her lively and exciting personality and even made it to the battles stage. In 2020 she was one of 10 upcoming artists to be selected to work with Prince Kaybee on the Project Hope album where they made a single called Ha ke sa kgone, which would flaunt her songwriting skills. That opened a few doors allowing her to grow as a solo artist, writing songs, having online shows under her name during the lockdown and performing on local stages in her hometown. In 2022 she collaborated with Botaki Ba Afrika for a Ditiragalo Tsa Mmino segment where she showcased some of her songs. Not long after that, she went on to give a remarkable performance at the Black Labone night market with her 6-piece band. She was a part of the Phenomenal Women project that was held at the Nirox Foundation where she would show case her music as well as her guitar skills alongside the greatest female musicians in South Africa. She writes mostly in Setswana and dabbles in the art of Rap from time to time. She posts a lot of her cover videos and performances on her social media platform. She performs at weddings, restaurants, corporate gigs, markets, just to name a few, where she performs popular music as well as her music. She has songs with other upcoming artists, but her genre of songwriting is mostly afrosoul, alternative and RnB but she is very versatile and experimental with many sounds.
