Ethiopia’s award-winning musician, Sami Dan, has released a new single ‘Fikir Selam’ (loosely translated to Love and Peace). Sami, along with the Sound Band, will embark on a club tour within Addis Ababa to promote the song. The tour kicks off on Friday, 11 November at Club H20.
‘Fikir Selam’ comes at a time when Ethiopia has witnessed restlessness, the kind that saw the government announce a state of emergency on 15 October following a year of widespread protests against government policies. With relative peace and security now restored, the song’s powerful message that reinforces the importance of peace cannot be ignored.
“There is no one that does not want to live on earth in peace and love. Love and Peace are the ways by which we always win,” the artist asserts in the four-minute song. The highly artistic music video was shot and directed by Malik Desta.
Sami believes artists are leaders in the society and need to encourage positive change through their work. This new song, released at the end of October 2016, furthers this belief.
Sami has had an incredible year in 2016. He released his debut album, Keras Gar Negeger (speaking with oneself), in May; in August 2016 Sami was featured on the Music In Africa list of five emerging reggae artists within East Africa. He went on to win four awards at Ethiopia’s Leza Awards. The great run for the artist is set to continue as he is expected to make his debut performance at East Africa’s leading festival Sauti Za Busara in 2017.
His full song promotion schedule is as below:
- 11 November: Club H20
- 18 November: Villaverde
- 25 November: TBA
- 02 December: Club H20
