Kenya’s National Music Policy now ready

The Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Culture and the Arts; Dr. Hassan Wario recently appointed a committee of experts and stakeholders in the music industry with a view to finalizing the National Music Policy to safeguard this important cultural heritage. At the national level, this policy is aligned to contribute to the realization of Kenya’s Vision 2030 goals.

Before this Kenya had never had a comprehensive music policy. It has been many long years of writing and waiting. The document is now ready to be read and discussed by the public. One of the proposed clauses in the bill is making it mandatory law for Kenyan radio stations to play 60% Kenyan content to change the fate of Kenyan musicians for good. The document is here. This document will be discussed publicly on April 27 at the Louis Leakey Hall at the National Museum in Nairobi before it can be sent to parliament to become law.
