COVID-19: SA's Themba to play Beatport streaming marathon
The 24-hour music marathon is presented by US-based online music store Beatport and will feature 24 DJs from around the world. The event aims to raise funds for the World Health Organization's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
Other artists on the line-up are DJs Nora En Pure (South Africa/Switzerland), Nicole Moudaber (Lebanon/UK), Bonobo (UK), Carl Cox (UK), Nina Kraviz (Russia), GRiZ (US), RÜFÜS DU SOL (Australia), A-Trak (Canada) and Chris Liebing (Germany), among others.
"Over the past few weeks, we have seen so much of humanity come together as one to battle the escalation of the COVID-19 virus in an effort to protect the most vulnerable,” Beatport CEO Robb McDaniels said.
“With so many of us sheltered in our homes, wanting to stay connected to the people and music that plays such a positive role in our lives, Beatport and the passionate DJ community we work with on a daily basis feel compelled to deliver a unique music experience directly into homes across the world."
Viewers will be able to make donations during the Twitch live stream. Beatport will also partner with key industry partners to give away merchandise to randomly selected donors during the event.
Beatport will be displaying track IDs as songs are played for fans interested in purchasing any of the music they hear, and to support the independent artist and label community directly.
The event will start at 8pm GMT.
