SA: Filah Lah Lah named Apple Music Up Next artist
Apple Music has announced South African R&B singer and songwriter Filah Lah Lah as its latest Up Next artist.
Filah Lah Lah will be featured across Apple Music’s South African Up Next playlist, which features a dynamic class of new and emerging artists, thoughtfully hand-picked by Apple Music editors from around the world. The playlist is genre-agnostic and represents a line-up of artists their global editors are passionate about and eager to expose to a larger audience.
“Being selected as Apple Music’s Up Next South Africa artist for November is truly an honour and a dream come true,” Filah Lah Lah told Apple Music. “It’s so important for someone like me, with their own look and their own style, to be given a voice and spotlight, because it inspires others to do the same.”
Born Reabetswe Fila Ranamane, Filah Lah Lah’s passion for music is a result of her late father who went out of his way to ensure that her musical consciousness was guided by artists like Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, Betty Wright and Smokey Robinson.
Her music career began shortly after enrolling for an LLB degree. She released her debut single ‘Feels Like’ in late 2019, which is a tribute to the jazz greats she grew up listening to, with its tinkling piano melody overlaid with the 1990s hip hop beats.
The vast global Up Next roster of past talent includes Rema, Mr Eazi, Burna Boy, 6lack, Daniel Caesar, H.E.R., Greta Van Fleet, Khalid and Amy Shark, among others.
