Call for applications: Bayimba International Festival
Artists can now apply to perform at the three-day Bayimba International Festival, which will be held on 15-17 September 2017 in Kampala, Uganda.
Now in its 10th edition, Bayimba has become an important fixture in East Africa’s cultural calendar with its celebration of music, dance, theatre, film, comedy, poetry and visual arts.
Applications are open to artists of all disciplines until 30 April.
Last year’s edition brought the likes of Ghanaian-American hip hop artist Akua Naru, South Africa’s songbird Tribute “Birdie” Mboweni, Ugandan female Afro-soul saxophonist MoRoots, Kenya’s reggae maestros Gravitti Band, benga crooner Winyo Shipton as well as Ugandan masters of the ancestral kadongo kamu genre Mathias Walukaga, Chris Evans and Ronald Mayinja.
A modest performance fee will be offered to participating artists, with performers from outside Uganda encouraged to source for support to cover travel, visa and insurance expenses. A formal invitation letter will be provided to aid in the solicitation for such support.
Artists are requested to submit the following information:
- A completed entry form via bayimbafestival.com
- A profile/short biography (maximum 800 words) with recent picture(s).
- A presentation of your work (in case of music/film: one or two of your recordings on CD, DVD or mp3).
- A technical rider/data sheet.
Organisers will only respond to successful applicants. If you submit your application via e-mail, limit your submission to 5MB.
