Kenya: Fancy Fingers celebrates women with Love Language album
25 Mar 2024 - 16:16
Music producer and Sauti Sol guitarist Fancy Fingers has released his third solo project Love Language, which is now available for streaming and download.
The 12-track album features 12 collaborations with African female singers like Karun (Kenya), Simmy (South Africa), Tamy Moyo (Zimbabwe), Azawi (Uganda), Dunnie (Nigeria) and Bananas Overdose (Ethiopia), among others.
In many ways, this is Fancy Fingers’ own ‘love language’ and an ode to women and female artists. Each one of the album’s tracks is a radiant celebration of diversity, sisterhood, love and empowerment.
“There are many instances in the industry when women in music are often sidelined,” Fancy Fingers said. “I wanted to take this moment to give them their flowers and spotlight them. Not enough female artists are breaking through as they should and with this album, I want to give them a chance to really be seen.”
With love as the central theme, the project presents a sonic adventure in smooth, groovy and funky tracks that will tug at listeners’ heartstrings.
“It is impossible to tell the story of love without hearing the female perspective. Love is something we all relate to because we have all been through it in some way or other and I hope that this album will uplift everyone who listens to it,” Fancy Fingers said.
Fancy Fingers wrote, composed, mixed and mastered all the songs on Love Language, with co-writing support from his collaborators.
In 2021, Fancy Fingers released his debut solo album Father Studies, a reflection of the life and times of an African father from different viewpoints. This was followed by his lo-fi instrumental album Potluck in 2022.
It was on Father Studies that Fancy Fingers first revealed his singing voice. “Music comes to me in the moment and as a moment,” he says. “I remember when I was young, my brother and I would compose songs and sing them to our dad while playing the guitar. Singing is something that has always been in me and I just feel comfortable to explore this side of my artistry at this point of my career.”
