Kenyan fusion band Shamsi Music to launch new album
Instrumental jazz fusion band Shamsi Music is set to launch its latest album The Audition at the Kenya National Theatre in Nairobi on 13 and 14 July.
The album launch, dubbed Dawn to Dusk, will feature fellow musicians Kendi Nkonge, Manasseh Shalom and Emma Nyabera with special guest appearances by Kavutha Mwanzia-Asiyo, Rigga and Nechesa Odima.
The album features input from seasoned musicians such as Tetu Shani and Kasiva Mutua. The members of Shamsi Music pride themselves on creating memorable musical experiences that “capture the heart, mind and soul”. Some of the group’s well-known compositions include ‘Kipepeo’, ‘Birds of Paradise’ ‘My Absolute Favourite’ and ‘Murata’.

The group is made up of keyboardist Paul Mbithi, multi-instrumentalist George Nyoro, bassist Michael Munene, saxophonist Laka Niagara, guitarist Immanuel Mohol and drummer Kenn Biggie.
The band’s performance repertoire includes sharing the stage with international acts such as Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca, Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara and Grammy-winning American saxophonist David Sanborn. Locally, the band has worked with upcoming talent such as Kendi Nkonge, Manasseh Shalom and Emma Nyabera.
Advance tickets for the Dawn to Dusk performance are on sale for 1 500 Kenyan shillings ($15) while tickets at the door will be sold for 2 000 Kenyan shillings. VIP tickets are going for 3 500 Kenyan shillings. Doors open at 6.30pm and the show starts at 7.30pm on both days.
