Malawian singer named DStv, Ecobank brand ambassador
Malawian gospel musician Patience Namadingo was on Wednesday appointed brand ambassador of DStv Malawi as well as pan-African financial service Ecobank.
The announcement and signing ceremony was made during a press briefing at Proteas Ryalls Hotel in Blantyre. Both contracts will run for one year and will see the 'Mfumu Kale' singer featuring on various DStv Malawi and Ecobank marketing and communication campaigns.
“It’s an honour to be chosen by two big brands to be their brand ambassador,” Namadingo told Music In Africa. “I am very happy and excited to be part of these two organisations. My team and I recently engaged in a number of projects that took us to a whole new level in the industry. This saw us signing for two companies, DSTV and Ecobank, on the same day and venue.”
Namadingo said the deals would further his career and the Malawian music industry at large.
“This will benefit me as an artist considering that these are international brands,” he said. “DStv is also one of Africa's major music platforms and I see myself reaching greater heights. This deal is evidence enough that some corporates see it to be of importance to help and support others.”
“My appointment will also help artists to learn how best to brand themselves. It’s also a challenge for companies that should play a role in promoting the local music industry.”
MultiChoice Malawi sales and marketing manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda said Namadingo was expected to make a positive impact on the brand through his fan base.
“We believe that DStv and Patience Namadingo is a perfect marriage because we both aspire towards similar entertainment goals and our target audiences are the same,” Nyirenda said. “DStv appeals to all age groups and the same can be said about Namadingo’s music. DStv content is family-oriented just like Namadingo’s music.”
Nyirenda said his company would give Namadingo full DStv subscription during the duration of the contract and support some of his music shows.
Representing Ecobank, Victoria Chanza said the singer would be involved in digital advertising and social media communications.
As part of the deals, Namadingo is expected to plug the DStv and Ecobank brands whenever he performs.
