Kgalalelo Mofolo – African Music Lecturer, Researcher, and Performer

Kgalalelo Mofolo is a distinguished singer and African musical instrument specialist with a particular focus on the uhadi (Xhosa musical bow). Passionate about African music research, Kgalalelo has dedicated their academic and artistic career to preserving, studying, and promoting African musical traditions.

Born in Kimberley, Kgalalelo holds a Diploma in Choral Conducting and a Bachelor’s degree in Music, majoring in Voice, followed by Honours and Master’s degrees in Musicology. Currently, they serve as a Lecturer in AfricanMusic at North-West University, where they contribute to the academic and practical exploration of African music and indigenous instruments.

Beyond academia, Kgalalelo is actively involved in community outreach, organizing and facilitating workshops in schools to educate and inspire young musicians about African music and traditional instruments. Their research and artistic endeavors play a crucial role in the ongoing documentation, revival, and celebration of African sonic heritage.

As both a performer and scholar, Kgalalelo Mofolo is committed to bridging the gap between academic study and artistic expression, ensuring that African musical traditions continue to thrive for future generations.
