Ghana: 3Music Awards 2023 postponed
3Media Networks, the organiser of the 3Music Awards in Ghana, today announced the postponement of this year’s event.
The development, made public in a press release, marks the first time the ceremony has been postponed since its inception in 2018. It also breaks away from its usual schedule in the first quarter of the year, traditionally preceded by the 3Music Women’s Brunch on International Women’s Day, which recognises outstanding women in Ghanaian music and sees the presentation of the first batch of trophies for 3Music Awards.
The company said the decision, a “temporary setback”, comes amidst the need to secure adequate financial support and sponsorship to “uphold the unmatched standard of excellence that has defined the 3Music Awards over the years.”
The company added that rescheduling the event to 2024 will maintain its status as an unrivalled experience within the industry.
“While we acknowledge the disappointment this may bring, we want to assure all our stakeholders – industry partners, sponsors, artists, and fans – that we are actively working behind the scenes to secure the necessary support,” 3Media Networks CEO Rashidatu Yasmine Abdulai, who joined the company in November last year, said. “We remain dedicated to delivering an unforgettable 3Music Awards 2024.”
“We value the trust and confidence placed in 3Music Awards, and as such, we are resolute in our pursuit of maintaining the highest standards of production, setting the stage for a triumphant return next year,” the organiser added. “Throughout this period, we will keep all stakeholders updated on our progress and share any developments as they unfold.”
At the 2022 3Music Awards, Afropop singer KiDi won the Artist of the Year accolade for the second year running, edging hip hop act Black Sherif, who had been widely tipped to pick the trophy.
