Call for scores: Lowell Chamber Orchestra in the US
The Lowell Chamber Orchestra (LCO) in the US is calling on composers of any age around the world to submit scores to be premiered at a concert in September.
There is no fee to participate and the winning score will benefit from the following:
- A live performance on the LCO’s initial concert of the season.
- A professional video and editing of the aforementioned performance.
- $500 in prize money.
- One year of publication through scodo (Universal Edition).
- Up to $300 in travel stipend to attend the performance.
Works must be:
- Previously unpublished and unperformed, with one submission per composer.
- In one or multiple movements, between seven and 10 minutes long.
- Scored for exactly one flute, one oboe, one clarinet, one bassoon, one French horn, and strings (3.3.2.2.1 max).
- No works for the stage, narrator, nor soloists. No electronics, video, amplification, or any other props.
Submission requirements:
- A PDF of the score with the composer’s name. Submissions will be made anonymous before being sent to the judges.
- Programme notes and any special instructions (if applicable), in the same PDF file.
- Composers should not submit any recordings, biographies, headshots or anything else. Submissions are final.
Note: By submitting the work, composers agree that decisions are final and cannot be contested. No feedback will be given during or after the competition.
Interested composers should submit their work via email at admin@lowellchamberorchestra.org before 1 May.
Ten finalists will be notified by the end of May while the winning score will be announced by end of July.
