Faisal Kiwewa is the founding director of Bayimba Cultural Foundation in Uganda. His passion for arts and culture began during primary and secondary school. Before establishing Bayimba in November 2007, he acquired diplomas in music composition and performance and audiovisual production.
He also occupied various positions in the cultural sector. Through Bayimba, Kiwewa has made many contributions to transform the arts scene in Uganda. He has trained, supported and created numerous platforms to celebrate the arts in Uganda. His efforts in networking and building bridges within the arts sector, has grown Bayimba institute into a house hold name among artists and professionals, not only in Uganda but also in the East African region.
As director of Bayimba, Faisal was a fellow at DeVos Institute of Arts Management (Washington, US) from 2010 till 2012. He also attended various other trainings, including Academia Vitae (now CREARE Foundation) in the Netherlands (2009), the National Arts Fundraising School in the UK (2010), the Atelier for Young Festival Managers in Turkey (2011) and an Arterial Network Train-the-Trainer training (Kenya, 2012). He was also a fellow at the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) and the Emerging Leadership Class of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) in New York/US in 2013 and a juror and award ceremony presenter at WOMEX in Cardiff, UK in 2013.
