ACCES
ACCES

ACCES has stamped its authority as Africa’s leading music trade event. At the 2019 edition in Accra, the conference brought together more than 1 200 delegates from about 50 countries on the continent and beyond. The conference also hosted 76 showcasing artists from Africa and the diaspora, who got to perform for an influential audience at two top live venues in the Ghanaian capital. Apart from live showcases, the event features panel discussions, presentations, exhibitions, pitch sessions, Q&A sessions with prominent musicians and visits to key music industry hubs in the host city. Many of these activities will be planned for ACCES 2021, with the ACCES team already exploring a tailor-made programme that will cater for the specific needs of the local music industry amid the pandemic. ACCES is organised by the Music In Africa Foundation, a non-profit and pan-African organisation, in partnership with Siemens Stiftung and Goethe-Institut.

Gender@Work
Gender@Work

Music In Africa Gender @ Work is a three-year training programme aimed at upskilling and increasing the participation of female professionals in the African music sector. Launched by the Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) in April 2019, the programme is connected to the MIAF’s ACCES music conference – a pan-African event held in a different African country every year. This connection enables the programme to reach new participants in a different African country every year. The programme marks the beginning of a more concerted effort by the Foundation to support the participation and inclusion of women in all facets of its programmes and the music sector in Africa as a whole. Over the three years, the programme will aim to address gender imbalances in the sector through training, lobbying, facilitating knowledge exchange and dialogues that foster the interest of women. For cultural and creative practitioners and organisations operating in southern Africa, access to funding remains a major challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a massive impact on government policy, spending and the economy in general, and has seen spending on culture being moved further down the list of priorities. Further, the cultural and creative industries repeatedly cite four main areas where investment is needed for growth, which are increased visibility, mobility including access to new markets, finance and support structures.

BIO

Mashudu Lucky Maseko, b. October 7, 1998 Johannesburg, South Africa JOHN NA$H (pronounced John Nash – with a dollar sign)  also known as JIGSAWCE is a versatile artist, rapper, and video director from Vosloorus, Johannesburg. Not to be mistaken for reggae singer Johnny Nash or mathematician John Nash, this JOHN NA$H is creating his own legacy in African hip-hop culture.

JOHN NA$H is a dynamic South African rapper and lyricist whose rise in the underground and indie hip-hop scene has been marked by tenacity, raw storytelling, and unapologetic self-expression. Born Mashudu Lucky Maseko and raised in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni (Gauteng), he carved his artistic identity through lyrical mastery and introspective songwriting, earning recognition in both mainstream and grassroots platforms.

Na$h first caught national attention in 2016 through The Digital Cypher, a competitive hip-hop segment on YFM 99.2’s The Hip-Hop Floor, hosted by DJ Speedsta and DJ Zai Maya, where his lyrical skill earned him a winning streak across three consecutive weeks. His performance on the segment later in 2019, under new hosts DJ Zan D and OG Samke, drew praise from listeners and comparisons to legendary South African rapper Stogie T, reaffirming his place as a lyrical force.

He has also appeared on radio stations such as Metro Fm, Massiv Metro, 1Africa Radio/TV, 5FM and many more. Over the years, JOHN NA$H has released four solo projects and one collaborative tape, all of which have attracted thousands of streams on SoundCloud and beyond. His debut solo EP, BEYOUTIFUL, released on his birthday in 2018, was celebrated for its themes of self-love, mind power, and confidence. A month later, he followed it up with Just BEYOUTIFUL, a collection of unreleased gems that didn’t make the original cut. In 2019, Na$h delivered a creative one-two punch with two impactful projects: the emotionally driven 808s and Prayers and the concept-heavy DILLIC (an acronym for “Do I Look Like I Care”), showcasing his range from vulnerability to bold defiance Na$h is also a former member of the supergroup Dream Kiiidz, formed in 2019, alongside Threat, C-Lawz, Calvin Abstrxct, and others. The group’s debut project, INTRO, and its visuals, particularly for the track Whatchu Want, reflected a growing collaborative creative energy.

His versatility and impact have seen him feature in several noteworthy projects and platforms. He appeared on both The BeastRand Tape Vol. 1 & 2, curated by the revered Rashid Kay. One of the standout tracks from the tape by Dj Malefactor called "Happy Music"— featuring Pro Mahlalela and Tee Starz — received major radio play after being playlisted on Metro FM, during a show hosted by legendary DJ Oskido.

Na$h also made waves through his appearance on Sotra Cyphers, a hip-hop platform hosted by Speeka, which highlights top-tier emcees from Johannesburg and surrounding areas. His commanding performances further solidified his status as a lyricist to watch.

On the live performance circuit, JOHN NA$H has rocked stages across Gauteng, gracing events such as The Tswyza Show Festival, Siya Shezi Gatherings hosted by Siya Shezi, Heartbeats WorldWide hosted by Nyeleti The Star, Indie Riot, Creme De La Creme, and others hosted by Tuff Jam Entertainment, where his on-stage presence and authenticity resonate deeply with fans.

From humble freestyle battles in Vosloorus high schools to platforms on national radio, JOHN NA$H’s journey is one of evolution, resilience, and lyrical precision. He continues to shape his narrative not just as an emcee, but as a voice of a generation navigating identity, struggle, and artistic growth.

Now, five years since his last full-length release, JOHN NA$H dropped his most anticipated project yet — STEP — marking a new chapter in his evolution as an artist and performer. Bold, reflective, and forward-pushing, STEP reintroduced Na$h with the same lyrical fire and a new creative vision.
