Letona Spokes Hlatshwayo (29 March 1968 – 23 July 2013), better known as Spoke H, was a South African musician and producer born in the township of Evaton. He is regarded as an important figure in the evolution of South African popular music, a genre-shaping artist whose work bridged the transition from bubblegum to kwaito.

Spoke H began his musical journey in the 1980s, initially making his mark behind the scenes as a producer. His early success included crafting the hit “Thiba” for bubblegum artist Sea Bee, a track that established him as a rising force within the industry’s production circles.

As South Africa entered a new cultural era in the 1990s, he stepped into the spotlight with his own releases, contributing to the foundation and expansion of kwaito as a dominant youth sound. His catalogue includes memorable tracks such as “Tamatisous”, “Rabaki” and “Peace Magents”, songs that captured the rhythmic pulse and streetwise narratives that defined the genre.

In recognition of his lasting impact, Spoke H was posthumously honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the South African Music Awards in 2018. Today, his legacy endures as one of innovation and cultural significance within South African music.
