South African funding agency Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) is calling on local students studying towards an MA or PhD in an arts discipline to apply for one of 10 bursaries of R30 000 available through the ACT Development Programme.
The initiative is intended to encourage academic research in the arts and culture sector and the documentation of arts practice.
Students who wish to apply must currently be enrolled in a degree programme or have already applied to their prospective institution.
Only online application forms will be accepted and all supporting documents must be submitted with the form.
Interested applicants should apply here. The closing date is 29 November.
“It is exciting to see the range of work being done across the country at the junction of arts and academia,” ACT programme manager Jessica Glendinning said.
Nedbank head of group sponsorships and cause marketing Tobie Bronkhorst said: “We are excited to contribute to arts and culture across South Africa. Nedbank’s brand essence is all about being money experts who do good, and this is why we continue to fund the Arts and Culture Trust, as it serves as confirmation of our commitment to growth and innovation in the arts.”
ACT said in a statement: “Thanks to the generous support of the Nedbank Arts Affinity programme, ACT has assisted 18 postgraduate students at different institutions across South Africa in a range of degree subjects since 2018.
"These include applied music, arts administration, creative writing, cultural policy and management, digital curation, dramaturgy, fine art, history of art, and theatre.”
