Concerts SA to host panel, networking events in Cape Town

The programme includes a panel discussion and a networking session aimed at exploring opportunities for African artists within the global music landscape, as well as broader collaboration across the sector.

The main event, titled From Local Stages to Global Audiences: How Festivals Support African Artists, will take place at the Artscape Arena from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The session will be co-facilitated by Andre Le Roux and Brett Pyper, and will feature contributions from international and local industry figures, including Alexander Beets, Hadley Agrez, Sarah Jane Nicholson, Cornelia Faasen and Zoë Modiga.

The discussion is expected to focus on challenges facing artists, including access to performance platforms, touring opportunities and audience development, while also examining the role of festivals in supporting the creative economy.

Networking session to follow

A networking event will take place later in the day at Amber on Bree from 16:30 to 19:30. The session will centre on building educational and touring collaborations between international institutions, bringing together academics, festival organisers and musicians.

Separate engagements are also planned between South African stakeholders and representatives from Fontys Academy of the Arts. Coordinated by Christine Msibi, the meetings aim to explore partnerships in performing arts education and exchange programmes between South Africa and the Netherlands.

National jazz jam sessions initiative

The Cape Town events form part of a broader national programme led by Concerts SA in partnership with the Festival Enterprise Catalyst, SAMRO and the Jobs Fund.

The initiative will see more than 100 jazz jam sessions hosted across South Africa between February and June 2026. The sessions aim to support independent venues and strengthen the live music ecosystem.

Across Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg, selected venues will host regular sessions featuring professional musicians alongside open participation from emerging artists. Additional pop-up events will be held nationwide to broaden access.

Recent sessions in Cape Town and Johannesburg have drawn varied audiences, with organisers noting a shift towards more interactive and community-driven live music experiences. The programme is intended to encourage audience development, support collaboration and provide performance platforms for artists.

Concerts SA said the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to sustain live music activity and strengthen the infrastructure supporting South Africa’s jazz sector.
