MTN Bushfire festival returns to eSwatini with diverse global line-up

The 19th edition of the MTN Bushfire festival is scheduled to take place at House On Fire in the Malkerns Valley, eSwatini, from 29 to 31 May.
The annual event, known for combining music, arts and social activism, will feature artists from 20 countries as part of its initial programme announcement. The festival operates under the theme Bring Your Fire, which encourages engagement around social and environmental issues.
The first wave of performers includes a range of artists from Africa and beyond, reflecting the festival’s multidisciplinary approach.
Among those confirmed is eSwatini-born DJ Uncle Waffles, who is set to return for a homecoming performance. The programme will also include a tribute to late South African musician Busi Mhlongo, featuring artists Buhlebendalo, Xolisa Dlamini and Zawadi YaMungu.
Other performers announced include London-based band Kokoroko, Congolese group Jupiter & Okwess, Spain’s Fillas de Cassandra, and South African-Spanish artist Yugen Blakrok.
Artists from southern Africa feature prominently, including Kabelo, Young Stunna, the Ndlovu Youth Choir, Radjha Ally and Hope Masike. Additional acts include Anna Sato, Summer Pearl, ESINAM, Elena Shirin, Milan Ring and Wayne Snow.
Collaborative and cross-cultural performances are also part of the programme, including projects involving Lindigo Family and Anna Sato, as well as Ka-Tembe Connexion.
Local representation and arts programme
Swati artists will form part of the line-up, including Velemseni, Sibu Manzini, !Sooks and iYa. Performances will span genres such as Afro house, jazz, electronic and traditional music.
Beyond music, the festival will feature an arts programme that includes theatre, acrobatics and interactive performances. Acts include Irish performer Murray Molly, South African group The Cirk, and a children’s production titled How to Hold the World.
Organisers said the event will once again focus on cultural diversity, inclusion and sustainability, with a mix of performances, visual arts and community-driven activities planned across multiple stages.
