Nigeria: Falz launches NFT collection

This comes a year after the musician joined Binance’s 100 Creators programme as part of the company’s vision of exploring the intersection between technology and creativity.

The collection will feature NFTs exploring the different roles Falz has played over the course of his career while offering fans a rare glimpse into his creative mind. The NFT project is also expected to build a stronger community around his fans, and reward and connect with them like never before.

The purchase of any NFTs allows patrons access to Falz’s fan club, as well as limited-edition merchandise, zoom meetups, exclusive access to parties and more.

“I am really excited about the collection because I feel like it is something that people are going to love,” Falz said.

Binance Africa director Emmanuel Babalola said: “We are especially excited to host African creators as we see the profound opportunity NFTs and the blockchain technology bring to the entire continent. As NFTs transform the digital art world, it is important that African creators are provided an even larger platform with optimal solutions to reach a more global audience”

Over the past year, NFTs have accrued widespread acceptance, especially within the creative industry. Speaking to Music In Africa in 2021, Binance’s business development manager for Africa, Brenton Naicker, attributed the growing success of NFTs to its ability to eliminate middlemen.

“The NFT layer in itself contains intellectual property, and then they also find a way to sell and distribute it because of NFTs on the Binance Marketplace. So it has really opened the door for African artists to global exposure to monetise their work in a far easier way than they were previously allowed to,” Naicker said.

Earlier this week, Nigerian producer Leriq disclosed plans to launch his NFT platform, African Valuables Collective (AVC), to enable African creators to generate and sell their work. Nigerian producer Don Jazzy and rapper MI Abaga also secured crypto branding deals with startup Quidax to help demystify the technology while driving the use of cryptocurrency and associated products in Nigeria. Fellow artists including Oxlade, Bnxn and Rema are also due to release NFTs collections soon.
