The song ‘Leader’ is a notable one for Sierra Leone, a country with a contemporary music scene not well known outside of its own borders. By featuring Stonebwoy, one of Ghana’s biggest acts who is also a BET award winner, Star Zee stands a chance at finding some success outside of Sierra Leone.
The song is produced by Beatz Dakay, the producer responsible for some of Stonebwoy’s early hit songs including ‘Higher’ and ‘Mightylele’. The artist and producer went their separate ways in January after a disagreement, but might be back to working together again.
Days before the release, Star Zee, who was a member of a girl group before going solo, shared news of the collaboration on social media. Stonebwoy showed some support by doing same, tagging a clip of the music video, “@starzeezee ft @stonebwoyb is The Baddest Sierra Leone x Ghana Collab!! World, Be On The Alert.”
Star Zee, who is quite famous in her country, has been referred to as “Sierra Leone’s hip hop and dancehall queen.
