Sizwe Alakine features Boohle, DJ Stokie and Tycoon on After Tears
South African artist Sizwe Alakine has released a new single titled ‘After Tears’ featuring local artists Boohle, DJ Stokie and Tycoon.
The song is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms. It’s his first release after the artist signed a deal with Warner Music South Africa. The track was recorded last year and is a personal tribute to the late Riky Rick and DJ Dimples.
“I’ve always believed music to be reflective of the human experience,“ Sizwe Alkaline, whose hip hop stage name is Reason, said. “[At] the time of recording, I had no idea that the song would hit home for me, having encountered multiple losses in a personal capacity.
“This song is an ode to all those who have passed on, something we’ve all experienced, particularly during the pandemic. My music continues to tell our stories and heal us.”
In a kwaito-styled delivery, Boohle captures the song’s essence with her powerful vocals while the melodic production of DJ Stokie and Tycoon adds emotion to the amapiano signature lock drum.
Boohle said: “I heard the song and could immediately relate. The first vocal that I’d recorded somehow went missing, and Sizwe waited for me to return from my trip to London to rerecord. This is a big song that’s relevant to the times we’re living in.”
Tycoon said he was honoured to work with such established acts, while DJ Stokie described the collaboration as energetic.
Reason joined the music industry in 2005. He gained popularity in the hip hop scene after releasing ‘Breathe’. The popularity of the track brought about collaborations with fellow rappers Proverb and Tumi Molekane. He has won a number of awards and performed at home and abroad. Since crossing over to amapiano, he has collaborated with a number of popular artists in the genre, including DJ Maphorisa on ‘Khanda Shisa’.
