Kenya: Watch Nikita Kering's Never Let You Go
Kenyan pop singer and songwriter Nikita Kering has released a new single titled 'Never Let You Go' ahead of the release of her debut EP later this year.
The mid-tempo song features varying melodic lines, which are overlaid by Kering's powerful signature vocals. The track, which features a video, was arranged by Max Kering and produced by SoFresh 254. The 'Never Let You Go' music video was directed by award-winning African filmmaker and cinematographer Enos Olik.
"Never Let You Go' will be relatable to people who are confused about the relationships or situationships that they are in," Kering said. "The song is about doing anything to prove to your loved one that they mean the world to you. Not by words only, but by actions. It's inspired by my experiences with friends and family."
She added: "This project is an important part of my growth in this music industry as it presents my versatility as an artist. So sing the song out loud. It only hits deeply when you do so. No matter where you are when you listen to it, understand that it comes from a place of truth. That's what it means and stands for."
The single adds to the 18-year-old’s impressive list of achievements. Last year Kering won two awards at the All Africa Music Awards, including Best Female Artist East Africa and the Revelation of the African Continent. She was also among the two Kenyan finalists selected by Mr Eazi's talent support project Empawa, which earned her $3 000 to produce the single 'Tragedy', a song that touches on gender-based violence.
