Nigerian singer Wizkid has shifted the release of his third album. Slated for a September release, like those of compatriots Brymo, Iyanya and Davido, the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner has decided the as yet unnamed album is not quite ready for the public. It is now expected to be in stores sometime next year.
The now delayed album has been said to feature a much anticipated collaboration with US R&B singer Chris Brown as well as another with Beninese Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo. It is meant to follow his sophomore Joy released in 2014. That album has been celebrated for the autobiographical song ‘Ojuelegba’ which has spawned two remixes—one with Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie and another with UK singer Skepta and American rapper Drake.
Wizkid announced the postponement shortly after attending the Fortyfied event, a concert held in commemoration of singer 2face’s 40th birthday. The experience must have left quite the impression on the younger singer, who featured alongside 2face in last year’s Hennessy Artistry concerts: together they released the song ‘Dance Go (Eau de Vie)’.
On social media, Wizkid wrote: “Celebrated the legend 2face Idibia1 last night! Epic! Made me realize how much I need to fuck the game up! So I’m moving my album to sometime next year!”
In place of the album, Wizkid will now release an EP. The EP, scheduled for October, will have 10 songs, each expected to be accompanied by a video.
